NAIL FUNGUS TREATMENT

LASER TREATMENT

Do you have ugly, thick, deformed or discolored toenails?

If you answered yes to the question above, you may suffer from toenail fungus, otherwise known as onychomycosis. Fungal toenails are very common. Fungus can infect the nail beds, the nails themselves, and the skin around the nails. When not properly treated, the infection worsens and often spreads from one nail to the other, eventually infecting all the nails. It also potentially causes many health dangers (see below). Dr. Jeffrey Bean, D.P.M. will examine your toenails to determine if you have onychomycosis (fungal toenails) and help you with an effective treatment plan.

Dangers of toenail fungus:

Toenail fungus is contagious. It spreads from person to person and toe to toe. It can advance from the skin of the feet to any other area of the body especially the groin and scalp. If not treated in a timely manner, it can even spread to the digestive and reproductive tracts. People who have diabetes, poor circulation or impaired immune systems can suffer serious complications from toenail fungus. If not treated, toenail fungus can lead to open sores under the toenails resulting in skin, soft tissue and bone infection. In many cases, this has led to amputation of toes, feet and legs. See your podiatrist immediately if you suspect toenail fungus.

Sierra Podiatry Center is proud to introduce LASER therapy, the most reliable, safe and pain free cure for toenail fungus. Our FDA approved Nexus-10 980nm diode LASER directly kills the fungus under, around, and within the toenails. The Nexus-10 LASER's 980 nanometer wavelength has a high affinity for the organisms that cause fungal toenails. Studies show an 80-85% success rate of LASER therapy for toenail fungus when combined with Clear Nails Pro+ topical fungal nail gel and Clean Sweep shoe spray. Clear Nails Pro+ is an FDA approved medication that you brush onto your nails, like nail polish, twice a day. It is available from your local Board Certified Podiatrist, Dr. Jeffrey Bean, D.P.M.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The Nexus-10 LASER provides safe, effective, comfortable treatment for nail fungus. Some patients experience a warm or hot sensation. If you feel this, be sure to tell the doctor or assistant, who will apply a cooling solution or spray. Your treatment should be a comfortable experience.

Your treatment plan will generally consist of three treatments, thirty days apart. It takes only a few minutes per nail to treat.

Toenails will replace themselves every 9-12 months (some as early as 6 months or as long as every 18 months). You will begin to see clear growth at the base of the toenail about 2-3 months after the first treatment. The clear growth will continue from base to the tip as the toenail continues to grow.

Insurances consider this treatment, as well as all other laser treatments for fungus to be aesthetic or cosmetic therapy; therefore, they do not cover this service. Please inquire with office staff for pricing.

The fact that you have toenail fungus shows that you are susceptible to it. The fungus organisms are everywhere - indoor and outdoor environments, and especially in moist places like shoes, locker rooms, pools, showers and hot tubs. You can prevent recurrence of fungus infection by regularly disinfecting your shoes and using Clear Nails Pro+ fungal nail renewal gel and Clean Sweep shoe spray. We also carry Dr's Remedy anti-fungal nail polish, which is effective in preventing nail fungus.
